I have the same problem. After investigation and contact the support, it appears that the problem is my Windows version. PolarFlow V4 requires Windows 10. I installed PolarFlow V3 and my watch is detected again but the update can't be avoided in order do synchronisation. So still stuck.

Most of Polar software does not work, too cumbersome, unreliable and insufficient help. Polar Flow Sync is about the worst software I ever encountered.

I can't sign in to my phone. It doesn't recognize me when I type in my password. It will not send a new password. My watch, fully charged, will not display the symbol for talking to my phone. Please send me instructions and a new password. (I have asked for a new password 3 times).
